Anglican Funeral Services at Churches, Chapels and Cemeteries

Anglican Funeral Service

A traditional Anglican funeral service is usually held at your Parish church prior to proceeding to a cemetery or crematorium for the committal. We coordinate services with Anglican churches throughout Melbourne and arrange burial or cremation at all major cemeteries and memorial parks, including Fawkner Memorial Park, Altona Memorial Park, Lilydale Memorial Park, Springvale Botanical Cemetery and Bunurong Memorial Park.

For families who prefer a non-church venue, we can also arrange a suitable chapel setting where an Anglican minister can lead the service.

An Anglican funeral is usually conducted by a Priest or Minister using the Order for the Burial of the Dead or a contemporary funeral liturgy from A Prayer Book for Australia. The service may be a full funeral service, a shorter committal, or a service of thanksgiving, depending on your family’s wishes and your Parish’s guidance. We will contact your Parish on your behalf to arrange a suitable date and time, and make the necessary booking with the cemetery or crematorium.

Private Committal with a Later Thanksgiving Service

Some families prefer a small, private committal for close family, followed by a larger public thanksgiving or memorial service at a later date. We can help you plan and coordinate both parts of this option, including live-streaming the private service for family who cannot attend in person.

Hymns, Readings and Prayers

Music and scripture play an important role in Anglican funerals. We can assist you in selecting hymns, readings and prayers that reflect your loved one’s faith, and arrange experienced organists, cantors or vocalists, or professionally recorded music for the service.

Anglican Funeral Resources

If your family isn’t already connected with a Parish or minister, our funeral directors can put you in touch with an Anglican minister and provide resources to help with readings, prayers of the faithful, and writing a eulogy that honours your loved one’s life and faith.

Funeral Stationery

On every service we provide a complimentary, fully customised memorial book with the service details and a list of attendees. Our design team can also produce a full range of personalised funeral stationery, including Order of Service booklets, prayer cards, thank-you cards and bookmarks.

Photo Presentations and Tributes

Many families choose to include a photo presentation or floral tribute as part of the service. We can help you put this together, or provide a staff member to run it on the day.

Live Streaming

Live streaming is available for every service, allowing family and friends who can’t attend in person to share in the farewell from anywhere in the world.

Wake / Refreshments

It’s increasingly common for families to gather for refreshments after the service, before leaving in procession to the cemetery. We can arrange a Parish hall or function space and recommend experienced, reasonably priced caterers.

Supporting Your Family with Compassion and Care

Every life is unique, and every service should reflect the person being remembered. We take the time to understand your family’s wishes, and can help personalise the service with favourite hymns, readings, family tributes and photographic presentations, while keeping the meaningful elements of Anglican worship at its heart
