Dubock Funerals has extensive experience in arranging and conducting Catholic funeral services throughout Melbourne. Our highly experienced Catholic Funeral Directors will guide you and your family through every step of the funeral planning process. We work closely with you, your parish and priest to ensure every aspect of the funeral is thoughtfully arranged and conducted with dignity and respect.
Whether you prefer a Requiem Mass or Funeral Prayers, or simply a graveside committal, our team will work with your family and the parish priest or deacon in making appropriate decisions regarding your loved ones farewell..
We will contact your Parish on your behalf to book a suitable date and time for the funeral. We Will make a booking with the cemetery and whenever possible, families are encouraged to meet with the parish priest before the funeral. The priest will guide you through the Funeral Liturgy and assist with selecting the readings, prayers and hymns for the Mass.
Should the priest be unavailable to meet with you, our experienced funeral arrangers have a comprehensive range of resources and can assist you with these selections.
Requiem Mass
A Requiem Mass may only be celebrated by a Priest or Bishop and ordinarily on consecrated ground (I.e. a catholic Church or Chapel). Music should invariably include Hymns or appropriate sacred and/or instrumental music, though this is usually decided on by the Priest or Deacon, often in consultation with the family.
Funeral Prayers

Funeral Prayers are usually officiated by a Priest or Deacon, however a Mass is not offered but rather prayers for the deceased are said and a Liturgy of the Word and a Funeral Rite are celebrated.
Funeral Prayers are usually held in a Catholic Church though they may be held in a non-denominational chapel or other location. the priest may decide that prayers are more appropriate than a Requiem mass, though this would normally be done in consultation with the family.
Rosary and Vigil Prayers
In previous times a Rosary or Vigil Prayers would be offered in the evening prior to a Requiem Mass held the next day.
While such a tradition continues for some families, it has become more usual for the Rosary to be prayed immediately before a Requiem Mass on the day of the funeral.
Many families also choose to pray a Rosary at our funeral home, providing a peaceful opportunity for family and friends to gather prior before the funeral.
We will happily arrange the option that best suits your family’s wishes and your Pastor’s advice.
Catholic Resources
We can provide appropriate resources to assist you with choosing appropriate prayers, readings and assist with writing the prayers of the faithful. We provide families with a selection of approved Readings, Responsorial Psalm, Gospel Acclamations and Prayers of the Faithful. We can guide you if you prefer and happy to work with you to assist you and provide resources to make you in selecting those that best reflect your loved one’s faith and life.
